Sometimes it’s absolutely clear to you and those around you that you’re experiencing mental/behavioral health problems. More often, the need is less apparent. In general, emotional/mental health problems arise because there is an important difference between what we would like our life to be and how life actually is.
I use a practical, solution-oriented, systems approach. I assess my clients as members of interacting systems such as family, work, neighborhood, church and so on. This gives me the complete picture so I know the best way to proceed. In treatment, I utilize various behavioral therapies including: Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) & Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT).
I have a Master' degree in Professional Counseling and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the states of Arizona and Pennsylvania; a Certified Psychiatric Rehabilitation Practitioner; and a National Certified Counselor.
There have been hundreds of empirical studies to support the effectiveness of online therapy (telephonic/video). In many instances, online therapy is more effective than face-to-face therapy. Benefits may include: convenience; flexibility in scheduling; improved anonymity/privacy; accessing remote areas; and accessibility for those with physical limitations. However, online therapy may not be for everyone.
Fees are discussed while scheduling the initial session. I offer a discounted rate for cash/check and I do not currently offer a sliding fee scale.
People come to counseling to alleviate problems or symptoms. Treatment lasts as long as those unpleasant symptoms exist, from a few weeks to a few years. Others view counseling as part of their overall wellness (like going to the gym regularly). Some attend counseling to make a good life better, to reach higher potential, and to prevent problems in the future.
